It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
The advantage of having a post-holiday baby is that it really helps to eliminate the imminent slump of spirit that usually follows Christmastime. The disadvantage of having a post-holiday baby is the tendency to put off the birthday preparations because one is so busy with Christmastime! Add to that my trying to get ready to leave this weekend for a three-week gig singing Aida, and you have one heckuva headache!

HOWEVER, I was able to start working on my daughter's birthday dress on Friday, and put in a good eight hours. I also managed to do some laundry and have a voice lesson - and then wound up staying awake until 3:30 am Saturday morning sewing, sewing, sewing.

You see, I am S L O W with the sewing thing. Plus, my sewing machine (which belonged to my mum) hasn't been serviced in probably 30 years. So yeah...it doesn't help my situation. I like to think that I'd be a sewing WIZ if my machine just worked properly. But I don't sew more than one or two times a year, so shelling out the bucks to get it in working order seems a bit unjustified.

Here is a pic of the dress. All that's left is the zipper and the hem. I have until Friday. I still need to go out and find a zipper (not as easy as it sounds in my neighborhood), and I'm just procrastinating that hem. But I should be done in time! I'm hoping to arrange to take J-bird down to the Today Show (with a poster: Two on Today - get it?), and a cupcake/birthday/open house that evening. The problem is that I have a two-hour run through my Aida role with my voice teacher on Thursday evening. I really have to prepare myself accordingly, so that I can fit everything into the time that I have.

So there it is! Let the countdown(s) begin!

The dress is adorable! You are so brave. I occasionally venture into the sewing arena but it has been a wile. You are multi-talented! So not fair!
